Over 106 years ago, Masujiro Hashimoto (1875-1944) founded the Kaishinsha Motor Car Works in Tokyo. It was Japan’s first automotive company, producing its inaugural vehicle in 1914 – the DA. Yoshisuke Aikawa (1880-1967) was responsible for the name “Nissan.” He founded Nihon Sangyo – a holding company. On the Tokyo Stock Exchange, it became an abbreviation – Nissan. By 1934, the automotive branch became the Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. This is now the brand name used globally for the company’s products.
